Configuring Formulas in Validation Rules

Workflow Designer Properties allow a designer to configure conditional business rules for Validation Rules. The Formula Editor is a visual expression builder, with a built in library of functions, used to configure business rules that can be applied to any control on workflow steps. The Formula Editor has a library of default functions to help the infrequent user create conditional expressions.

Expressions can be built for business processes that require conditions to be analyzed for specific workflow behaviors. A business process may require that only end users with certain rights or roles have access to information; or that if an event occurs, and the criticality is severe, then additional steps must be performed. When these business conditions exist, the designer can use the Formula Editor to create these conditional expressions and perform calculations.

  1. In the Rule Editor window, zoom from the Qualifying Conditions field or Select a Formula from the Left and/or Right Value fields in the Added Condition.
Result: The Formula Editor window is displayed.

  1. Double left click over the Function in which you want to configure the formula for (for example, Add Days, Count, Current User Code, etc.).
Result: The function string is displayed in the lower white workspace of the Formula Editor.
  2. Locate and double left click to select any fields required to complete the formula (if applicable).
  1. Click the OK button to save the formula.
